On 27th November 2014 Professor Leon Tikly, from the University of Bristol in the UK, visited AIMSSEC. Leon’s work focuses on education in low income countries and in particular countries of sub-Saharan Africa. He currently directs a project on language supportive textbooks and pedagogy in Rwanda. AIMSSEC staff were interested to hear about the ways in which the project adapts text books to take into account the difficulties of teaching and learning in a language which is not the mother tongue.
Leon was interested in the work of AIMS and AIMSSEC, stating that he was “inspired”. He suggested that there may be ways to forge links between our work and his and will set up meetings with us when he is next in the Cape.
